A snippet of Tull

Better to buy "Living in the past" for true taste of Tull. The "Thick As a Brick" Edit is too short to appreciate the complexity of the song. This is also the case for "A Passion Play". The Accoustic Jethro Tull is also an excellent collection for a taste of Tull.

M.U. Remastered

M.U. (which stands for Musician's Union) was the second compilation of songs from Jethro Tull. Unlike the first compilation, which was pulled together in the wake of the commercial success of Aqualung, M.U. had a lot of hits. Over the years many of these hits were re-mastered on their studio albums. Also, the ideas of which songs were more appropriate for a hits collection changed. For more details on this, see my review under "The Very Best of Jethro Tull".

This is a re-issue of M.U. with all the songs re-mastered. You might prefer to look at "the Very Best of Jethro Tull" instead.

I've been requesting the Tull collection for a couple years now and thought perhaps this was a case of the artists not agreeing with the concept of iTunes, but luckily that is not the case. Other than one or two artists like the Beatles, this band was probably the most glaring ommission from the entire iTunes "classic rock" collection. This album is an import and a great one. If you don't want to pay $60 for some giant compilation this is your best bet. Only thing that's missing is Song for Jeffrey.

Jethro Tull was a unique phenomenon in popular music history. Their mix of hard rock; folk melodies; blues licks; surreal, impossibly dense lyrics; and overall profundity defied easy analysis, but that didn't dissuade fans from giving them 11 gold and five platinum albums. At the same time, critics rarely...
