iTunes Review

On Rhythm and Jews, The Klezmatics take traditional klezmer music - born in the annals of Jewish history and raised in the communities of Eastern Europe - and knock it firmly in its tuckus. Imagine "Hava Nagila" as interpreted by a manic avante-jazz ensemble and you'll get the feel of this happy intermingling of traditional songs interpreted through contemporary minds. Great humor explodes alongside the clarinet frenzies, violins race like New York taxis, and melodies reflect the most extreme emotional conditions, from ecstasy to despair. Even in its darkest moments, this album celebrates what it is be alive. Thousands of years of Jewish survival provide the incentive to play with such joy, but you certainly don't have to be Jewish to appreciate Rhythm and Jews.
