The LEGENDARY roots Crew

by Joi Neill

I loved every single album that the roots came out with ! These last two "Game Theory" and "Rising Down" very great! My expectation are high for anything new!

Think first... then write.

For those of you that say the Roots have fallen off, you really need to shut your mouths. ALL the beats on Game Theory are Quest. Always have been, always will. Black Thought will still rip any MC in the world (I'm looking at you Jay-Z/Lil Wayne/Etc.). If you've heard any of Rising Down (their new record, dummy) you know they continue to innovate with raw beats and deep undertone synths that sound like nothing else out there. And if you don't believe me, scroll back and hear it from the man himself... Black Thought. He pegged it when he referred to y'all as "quasi" critics. A real critic has a MUSIC EDUCATION, like myself for instance. I have a degree in recording science. What 'chu got? Nothin'. So next time you want to run your yap about things you don't know about, stop, think and go take a nap... you need it.

stop whining.

im tired of all yall quasi critics whining in reviews over issues u know nothing about. this version of marathon man was a remix of a song that didnt make the cut for tipping point. it was produced by james poyser and done as a promotional song for the new logic program on mac. thus, it had to be produced on LOGIC. weve done better, weve done worse. We have never fallen off or lost our innovative ear and never will. Questlove still plays almost all the drums on every roots record, even if its a beat that completely synthed out we still replace certain elements with live drums, keyboards, guitar, bass,brass... we're just getting so good at it that its becomming more difficult for the layman to tell the difference. Yes Rising Down will be out april 29th and i wanna see what type of b.s. i see yall talkin on I tunes then. joints like 75 bars and Apologize were written with yall suckers in mind. Check my stats if you doubt me. Its under Black Thought, greatest mc on earth. I AM HIP HOP period.

Biography

Formed: 1989 in Philadelphia, PA

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Though popular success has largely eluded the Roots, the Philadelphia group showed the way for live rap, building on Stetsasonic's "hip-hop band" philosophy of the mid-'80s by focusing on live instrumentation at their concerts and in the studio. Though their album works have been inconsistent affairs,...
