I love when Opera singers sing Summer time. Why would Gershwin be rolling in his grave when he did intend Porgi and Bess the Opera to be sung by OPERA SINGERS! I don't care if it is an opera from the US, italy, france germany etc. it is still opera that is to be sung by opera singers. Summertime is from the opera Porgi and Bess. it is an opera song to be sung by opera singers. Stop complaining everytime you hear an opera singer sing Summertime.

Look, I don't even like Kathleen Battle, but I am writing in response to the person who says they hate when a lot opera singers sing Summertime. It IS opera. Period. Good for Billie Holiday for singing it and making it her own, but that is not the true way it was written. If you don't like that, then fine, but don't say it is wrong, because it is simply not wrong. And since when is American opera not like other opera- aside from it being in english?
