iTunes Review

No More Drama, proclaim the title and at least two tracks of Mary J. Blige’s fifth studio album. Maybe. But she’s still not above wagging a finger in your face if she senses you need it — whether you’ve crossed her in romance (the dramatic opener “Love,” which spells out the word as if spitting it on the ground before a battle) or simply walked into the room when PMS has the best of her. Few singers’ work is as explicitly personal as the one who reminds her fans “I’m just Mary.” No matter how high her star rises though (and collaborators here include Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, the Neptunes and Eve), she’s always singing for anyone who connects with her soul cry. Blige may be fighting to escape her own complex set of problems, but that work never gets in the way of an emotional generosity that’s on display throughout this set’s 70-plus excellent minutes.

From the hot single "Rainy Dayz" to the remix of "No More Drama" this album is just plain dope! Mary outdid herself on this one and it's easily her best album.

When her debut album, What's the 411?, hit the street in 1992, critics and fans alike were floored by its powerful combination of modern R&B with an edgy rap sound that glanced off of the pain and grit of Mary J. Blige's Yonkers, NY, childhood. Called alternately the new Chaka Khan or new Aretha...
