iTunes Review

No Doubt had to put in years on the Southern California club circuit before its rambunctious ska-punk revivalist sound found a mass audience. Once No Doubt did connect, though, they churned out a steady stream of ear-snagging hits, collected on The Singles 1992-2003. Gwen Stefani’s emotive (if exaggerated) singing style and outsized personality dominate these recordings. Her blend of girly-girl coyness and tough-chick attitude are best appreciated on manic numbers like “Excuse Me Mr.,” “Ex-Girlfriend,” and “Hey Baby.” Just as important to her persona are lovelorn ballads like “Don’t Speak” and “Simple Kind of Life.” Stefani isn’t the whole show here though — the band’s combination of brawny guitar riffs and supple Jamaican rhythms defined them from their first single “Trapped in a Box” through later releases like “Hella Good.” Rounding out this album is a newly-recorded cover of Talk Talk’s plaintive “It’s My Life.” The Singles shows off No Doubt’s crisp ensemble playing as well as their madcap spirit. Stefani’s solo career has made the band’s future uncertain, but these tracks assure their place in pop/rock history.

I got it when I turned 13 and I'm 15 now! And it got me hooked! I love them and Gwen! Actually sweet escape was my first Gwen album and then I needed more!!!

No Doubt is officially one of my favorite bands

I started out by listening to Gwen Stefani's solo songs, which I thought were awesome...and it wasn't long ago that I decided to get this album. I became interested in her band and actually thought they were much better than her solo career. Gwen should've stuck to being the lead singer of No Doubt, and thank God they got back together recently.

My favorite songs are Just A Girl, It's My Life, Hella Good, Running, Simple Kind Of Life, Don't Speak, and Ex-Girlfriend. The worst song, I'm sorry to say, is Trapped In A Box (It's from their debut album, which was horrible). Otherwise their Greatest Hits are amazing, and I recommend you buy this album if you want to hear the best of No Doubt.

AWESOME!!

just a girl and spiderwebs is GREAT X100000000000000000000000000!! but trapped in a box is VERY weird. it doesn't match with no doubt. it's more of reggae than rock. don't buy trapped in a box. :( it's a waste of money.

Biography

Formed: 1987

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

With the return of the punks in the mid-'90s came a resurgence of their slightly more commercial rivals, new wave bands. No Doubt found a niche as a new wave/ska band, on the strength of vocalist Gwen Stefani's persona — alternately an embrace of little-girl-lost innocence...
