Tender and Smart
by where's_gesualdoI grew up preferring the WTC on harpsichord -- Leonhardt especially. But believe it or not (given that first statement), now this album is my preferred WTC Bk. I. There's something incredibly human about this recording -- you can feel the blood moving through the veins of the Preludes and Fugues. #24 is to die for.

by iPodOwnerI loved this, but one thing. It does get a little note-y, especially on prelude no. 1. It should be played with a bit of innocence, a bit of love, and then it sounds lovely. That sounds a bit silly, but I think it should have the tender feeling bach wanted it to have.
Desert island stuff
by CDM-RamonListening to Andras Schiff play this music for several years, the impression that constantly comes back to me is of hearing a friend. His playing is masterly but not note perfect. His interpretations are sometimes naive but always apt. The music comes across as fresh and new, not a museum piece frozen in crystal. Most of all, it is Bach with a human face. Given that the Well-Tempered Clavier has about as formal and dry a structural concept as one can imagine--preludes and fugues in every key, both major and minor--this is a not an inconsiderable accomplishment. One is left not with a feeling of awe, but rather of friendship. Bravo.
