Album Review

Digital Ash in a Digital Urn is designed to be the musical polar opposite to the simultaneously-released I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, to be the ambitious, modernistic electronic record that stands in contrast to the sepia-toned, classicist acoustic LP. The production and arrangements may have changed, but Conor Oberst's preference to lyrics over music remains the same. Nevertheless, there is more variety and dynamicism on Digital Ash, which makes it a more interesting listen than its companion, even if it's hard not to escape the feeling that the album is Bright Eyes' take on the Postal Service's Give Up.

Probably the best Bright Eyes album. . .

. . .but they're all so unbelievably amazing, it's hard to choose a favorite. In any case, this album is incredible. As you read the reviews, you notice that everyone has a different set of favorite songs, which is really a testament to how great this album is. Every song is amazing enough to be someone's favorite. The little itunes clips just don't do it justice. To fully appreciate it you have to listen to it in its entirety, for sure. I know it's not your typical Conor, but it's great anyway. Definitely give it a shot-- of you are really a fan of Conor, I highly doubt you'll regret it.

Favorite songs: Arc of Time, Take It Easy, Devil in the Details

bright eyes is an awsome band. i went to Liberty elementry, which is were Conor's mom is the princable. i have gone to one of thier concerts before, and they put on a good show. arc of time is my favorite song on this album. conor oberst is a muscal genius, he's been one sence he was twelve years old. you need to listen to this band. some songs are sweet, and other have alitttle harder tone to it. you'll love this band.

Depressing, but Uprising

Conor shows a great alternative to I'm Wide Awake, here. People say it sounds completely different, but on the contrary, if you pay attention to his lyrics, Conor sounds just the same, with a mixture of sorrow in the middle. Gold Mine Gutted, Down In a Rabbit Hole, Easy/Lucky/Free, Hit the Switch, Devil In The Details, and I Believe in Symmetry are good buys.
