Album Review

An exquisite experiment, Apollo takes Brian Eno's spacescapes from albums like Another Green World and arranges them with some heavenly pedal steel guitar by Daniel Lanois. The recording engulfs the listener and captures the feel of space travel, weightlessness, and other sensations vividly. It's also perhaps Eno's warmest record ever. In the end, it comes off sounding not unlike a Grateful Dead experiment, with Lanois' lazy pedal steel sounding quite similar to Jerry Garcia's playing on David Crosby's "Laughing." An excellent nighttime vehicle.

I love this wonderful album!! I would have to say that "An Ending (Ascent)" is my favorite song of all time.

A gift for all mankind

by danjeffme

This was composed as the soundtrack to "For All Mankind" - a film about the Apollo missons, with recordings of the memories of the astronauts mixed with this beautifull, serene liquid bliss.
This album is Brian Eno's gift to all mankind, uplifting and joyfull in a quiet fashion that lets you drift through the soundscape as if in a dream. If you don't like abient, and not everybody does, then this may not be for you; there are a few "songs" here, with melodies and rythm, but most of it is soundscape.
If you like ambient music, this is the jewel.
