iTunes Review
No one ever accused Elton John and Bernie Taupin of lacking ambition, but the songwriting team's third major album was not only another orchestrated delight, it came complete with the sort of full-on thematic bent that more seasoned artists might not have attempted. Bred of Taupin's fascination with the Old West mythos, Tumbleweed Connection is a love letter to the country that was fast making the pair one of its favorite post-Beatles musical teams. The mood here shifts from high drama ("Burn Down the Mission") to a pensive celebration of rural life ("Country Comfort") and Lesley Duncan's sweet "Love Song." An early version of "Madman Across the Water" is included as a bonus track with this edition.

Something had to be done
by u2dadI've been a long-time iTunes subscriber, and this is my first review. Frankly, when I saw that this album had 4 1/2 stars, I was shocked. How anyone (1972) could rate this 1-star is beyond my comprehension. For that matter, anyone rating this album anything less than 5-stars needs to have their heads examined. This album and the music it contains is simply a "Mona Lisa".
A Wonderful Piece of Work!
by TEMK13The album's influence came from The Band's "Music from Big Pink". Both of the albums "Tumbleweed Connection" and "Big Pink" are outstanding pieces of work. I believe that both albums are underrated. Songs like "Where to Now St. Peter?" and Amoreena have that Robbie Robertson/Van Morrison type of sound. The orignal "Madman Across the Water" is exceptional and is a big contrast from the released version.
Hands-Down, Elton's Best
by aicontarI think that many Elton John fans pass over this album becuase they don't see any of his major hits, but really, I think this is the best album from the Bernie Taupin years, and dare I say Elton John's whole career. Every track is strong, from the moving ballads of "Burn Down the Mission", "Amoreena", "Into the Old Man's Shoes", "Come Down in Time" and "My Father's Gun" to the rockers "Ballad of a Well Known-Gun" and "Son of your Father" to the country-style "Counrty Comfort" and "My Father's Gun", this album has something for lovers of all genres.
