iTunes Review
Air's instant breakthrough of a debut is so French it doesn't hurt –– although it tickles a little –– and so effortlessly cool it'll make you self-conscious. All by way of vaporized vocals, lukewarm synths and a shaken-not-stirred retro sensibility that would have done wonders on Austin Powers the year before ... had it not been a comedy to awkwardly quote and chomp popcorn to. The reason being that Moon Safari isn't nostalgic, per say, and most certainly not as kitschy or (wink, wink) ironic as its spacey "Sexy Boy" single might lead you to believe. What it is instead is an immaculate pop album of suave Moog moves and locked Lava Lamp grooves. Not to mention a defining achievement in the downtempo/chill-out subgenre that dominated compilation racks at the turn of the century. To this day, songs like "Kelly Watch the Stars" and "You Make It Easy" seem to exist outside of any specific place or time; more like a state of mind involving little fluffy clouds and star gazing until the memories of the day become as blank-slated as the sky.

A Reason to Buy Moon Safari
by jessegrnListening to this album, it transitions from the enduring " All I Need" and it crawls into the song "Kelly Watch The Stars" A piece with no lyrics save the title being repeted gently over and over. Who is Kelly? No one needs to know. It's a beautiful thing, everytime we turn on the radio we are bombarded with dirt: shallow excuses for lyrics, crammed into a three and-a-half minute song with literally no meaning. Yet when listening to "Kelly Watch The Stars", we take comfort in the mystery of the abscence, the pleasure of the moment and the knowledge that Kelly belongs to someone, and she's peering into the sky looking for an answer. She doesn't quite know the question yet, nor do we. That is why this album will stand against time and remain a classic, it asks questions and let's the listener discover the answers for themselves.
