iTunes Review

Massive Attack had been away from the new-release racks for several years when Mezzanine, their third album, came out in 1998. But a tidal wave of lightweight trip-hop pretenders that had appeared in the gap could hardly detract from the set's power. On sonic terms alone, the music was often startling - the layers and layers of sound on "Inertia Creeps," for instance - or unexpected, as on the instrumental "Exchange," which actually recalls the Art of Noise's "Moments in Love" in its vision of ethereal, sensual electronica. Guest vocalist and former Cocteau Twin Elisabeth Fraser brings an element of light to what is often thought of as the group's darkest album, recalling English folk music with her vocal on "Teardrop." Likewise, reggae favorite Horace Andy returns; his "Man Next Door" brings to mind the qualities of a '70s Jamaican semi-classic. But Mezzanine is ultimately timeless.

Still listening to this album after 11 years

I can still remember the day when I realized that I loved every track on this album. I still listen to this album every so often, I lost my CD and now I have it on my iPhone and computer thanks to iTunes music store. I bet in another 11 years I'll still buy it after I lose my back up.

Would rather pick Daft Punk

Man Next Door

An absolutely incredible album. Apart from the obvious great tracks (Teardrop, Angel), Man Next Door is one of the best songs out there. Definitely a song worth owning. Buy this album and make sure to listen to Man Next Door.
